Gaga memulai debut “You and I” pada Juni 2010 selama penampilannya di White Tie and Tiara Ball milik Elton John. Cuplikan pertunjukan muncul di Internet, dan tanggapan positif mendorongnya untuk memasukkan lagu tersebut ke dalam daftar lagunya untuk The Monster Ball Tour. Pada 23 Agustus 2011, Interscope Records merilis lagu tersebut sebagai single keempat dari album.
